Roof Replacement in Macomb, Michigan
Roof Replacement
Atlas Pinnacle Pristine Burnt Hickory — 17311 Invitational Drive, Macomb
This job came in through a flyer drop in Macomb Township, near 26th Mile Road and Romeo Plains. The homeowner had concerns about whether we serviced Macomb County, which we do regularly. Once we got eyes on the roof, the condition told the whole story. The shingles had lost most of their granule coating on the sun-facing sides, the vents were showing visible hail damage, and the shingles themselves had taken hits as well. At that point the roof had simply run its course. Repair wasn't going to cut it. A full replacement was the only path forward.
We did a complete tear-off down to the deck on both sections, pulled everything off, and inspected the sheathing before any new material went down. The decking came back solid, so we moved straight into the install. We laid Epistik ice and water shield membrane along the eaves, through the valleys, around all wall transitions, and at every penetration on the roof. That's 12 rolls total. Over that went Summit 60 synthetic underlayment, cap-nailed per manufacturer specs, running up to the ridge across the entire field of the roof.
For the shingles, we installed 120 bundles of Atlas Pinnacle Pristine in Burnt Hickory, which works out to 40 squares of field shingles. The hip and ridge got 12 bundles of Pro-Cut Hip and Ridge shingles, and we ran 3 bundles of Pro-Cut Starter along all eaves and rakes before the field shingles went down. Burnt Hickory is a warm, earthy tone that reads well on a lot of the homes in this part of Macomb Township, and the Pinnacle Pristine line holds up well to Michigan's freeze-thaw cycles.
We replaced all 36 pieces of premium drip edge around the perimeter. The chimney got a full flashing replacement, with new step flashing and wall flashing installed properly at the transitions. There were three pipe penetrations on this roof, and each one got a new pipe boot and a pipe boot cover. The homeowner also had a satellite dish on the roof. She had already coordinated with DirecTV to have the equipment removed, so we were able to address that detail before finishing up. On the exhaust side, this roof kept the box vent system. We installed 17 box exhaust vents, which gives this roof solid attic exhaust coverage across the full ridge area.
There was also a satellite dish situation that needed to be sorted before we wrapped up. The homeowner had already been in contact with DirecTV about removal, and we confirmed the plan with her directly before our crew finished the job. Small detail, but it matters to get it right before you're done on a roof.
Roofing Army handled this Macomb Township roof replacement start to finish, including permits, dumpster, all materials, and labor. The final job cost came out to reflect the full scope on a 44-square roof with a steeper pitch section, full flashing replacement, and 17 exhaust vents. If you're in the Macomb area or anywhere across Southeast Michigan and your shingles are showing granule loss or you've got hail hits on your vents, it's worth getting someone up there to take a look before the deck starts paying the price.
