Atlas Pinnacle Pristine Black Shadow2632 Belle River Road, East China Township

At 4,725 square feet, this was a substantial job on Belle River Road, not far from the St. Clair River corridor that runs through this part of St. Clair County. This roof needed replacing because it was old and worn out, with significant granule loss across the shingle surface.

Once James decided to move forward with a full replacement, we put together a quote and got the project scheduled. There were a couple of scheduling bumps along the way, a supplier delivery delay and a thunderstorm forecast that pushed the start date back a few days, but we got the crew out there and knocked it out as a one-day job. James was present for the work, and true to his character, he set up pizzas in his garage for the crew that evening. Jordan's team took care of the rest.

The tear-off covered 57 squares total, split between the steeper sections of the roof and the lower-pitched areas. Once the old shingles were stripped, we went over the decking carefully. No OSB or plywood replacement appears in the line items, so the deck came back clean. From there, the waterproofing system went down first. We ran Epistik ice and water shield membrane, 13 rolls total, covering six feet at every eave plus the valleys, walls, and any penetrations where water tends to find its way in. Above that, Summit 60 synthetic underlayment went on in four rolls, running all the way up to the ridge with plastic cap nails per manufacturer specs.

Drip edge went on at all 47 pieces worth of eave and rake edges, followed by Pro-Cut starter shingles at the eaves and rakes. Then came 166 bundles of Atlas Pinnacle Pristine in Black Shadow, which works out to just over 55 squares of field shingles. The Pinnacle Pristine is a solid architectural shingle with good granule coverage and a clean shadow line. Black Shadow is a popular color in this part of Michigan, holds up well visually against the kind of weathering you get in Southeast Michigan winters. Hip and ridge cap is Atlas Pro-Cut, 10 bundles, hand-nailed at the correct pattern. Step flashing went in at two bundles where the roof meets any vertical surfaces, and wall flashing was installed at the transition point.

All three vent pipes got new pipe boots and pipe boot covers. The existing bathroom dampers were a known leaking model, so we pulled all three and replaced them with updated bathroom exhaust vents that route moisture outside instead of dumping it into the attic. That's a common problem in older homes and one worth fixing when you're already doing a full replacement. Ventilation on the exhaust side was handled with 30 units of OmniRidge Pro ridge vent, hand-nailed along 120 linear feet of ridge. That gives the attic a continuous exhaust path across the full length of the roof peak, balanced against the soffit intake already in place.

Roofing Army completed this East China Township roof replacement for $34,000, all-inclusive, covering permits, dumpster, materials, and labor. After the work was done, the crew ran a magnetic nail sweep across the entire property and did a final walkthrough with James. Before and after photos were provided. For a nearly 4,800 square foot roof on Belle River Road, it was a clean, well-executed job from start to finish.
