Atlas Pinnacle Pristine Weathered Wood3958 Winterset Court, West Bloomfield Township

This West Bloomfield Township roof replacement came in at 2,905 squares — a substantial home off Winterset Court, which sits in one of the quieter cul-de-sac neighborhoods tucked behind Orchard Lake Road in the northwest corner of Oakland County. The roof had reached the end of its service life. One layer of shingles over the original deck, and it was time to start fresh. We did a full tear-off down to the decking, inspected everything underneath, and replaced 9 sheets of 7/16 OSB where the wood had softened. Before any new material went down, we made sure the deck was solid.

Ice and water shield went in first. Two courses at the eaves, then coverage at every valley, wall transition, and pipe penetration. Above that, Summit 60 synthetic underlayment ran up to the ridge, fastened with plastic cap nails per Atlas's installation specs. Drip edge went on all the way around, 39 pieces total. Starter strip at every eave and rake before the field shingles began. The shingles are Atlas Pinnacle Pristine in Weathered Wood, 95 bundles covering just under 32 squares of field area. Pro-Cut hip and ridge cap finished the edges and peaks.

The job included a skylight replacement, which added some complexity. We pulled the old unit and installed a new Velux C04 skylight with the matching Velux flashing kit, which covers the C01, C04, and C06 curb sizes. That flashing kit is specific to Velux installations and integrates properly with the surrounding shingle field. Three pipe penetrations got new pipe boots and pipe boot covers. Wall transitions got new step flashing, two bundles of black/brown, along with 5 pieces of wall flashing at the appropriate intersections. Everything that penetrates or meets the roof plane was reflashed.

Ventilation was a real issue on this roof. The lower rear slope had no intake, which means the ridge vent at the top had nothing to pull from. We added 3 pieces of SmartVent intake at the eaves along that slope to create the intake side of the equation. Up top, we installed 20 units of OmniRidge Pro ridge vent, hand-nailed across 78 linear feet of ridge. That gives the attic a complete exhaust path from one end to the other. With the SmartVent pulling in at the eaves and the OmniRidge exhausting at the peak, the attic now has a balanced system instead of a dead zone.

Roofing Army handled permits, dumpster, all materials, and labor as one package. Cleanup included a full magnetic nail sweep of the property. David got before and after photos and a walkthrough when the job was done. West Bloomfield roofing projects like this one are common in Metro Detroit's older subdivisions where roofs installed in the late 1990s and early 2000s are hitting their natural end. The Atlas Pinnacle Pristine line is a solid choice for this area. It holds up well through Michigan winters and the Weathered Wood color blends naturally with the wooded lots that are typical of this part of Oakland County.
