Atlas Pinnacle Pristine Burnt Hickory — 4245 Whittier lane, Leonard

This homeowner reached out to Roofing Army in January after wind stripped the ridge vent pieces off the peak of his bonus room, leaving the attic open to the elements. That's not a situation you sit on, especially in a Michigan winter. Aaron was out within two hours to make it watertight, and the full replacement was planned from there. By late March, the project had grown to include four Velux skylights with built-in solar shades and remote controls, a full roof tear-off and replacement, new gutter guards, and adjusted gutter pitch. This is a 5,777 square foot roof on a home in Leonard, Michigan, with multiple pitch sections ranging from a low 3/12 all the way up to a steep 10/12 and beyond. That kind of variation adds complexity to every phase of the job.

The tear-off covered three distinct pitch zones. Thirty squares came off the mid-range sections running 8/12 to 9/12, eleven squares off the lower 3/12 to 7/12 sections, and twenty-three squares off the steeper 10/12-plus areas. Steep-pitch work moves slower and requires more care, so that breakdown matters when you're planning a job this size. Once the old material was off, the decking got a thorough look. We replaced 48 plank boards during the process. That's a meaningful amount of wood, and it tells you the old decking had some spots that weren't going to hold up under a new roof system.

With fresh decking in place, we ran 20 squares of WeatherMaster ice and water shield along the eaves and around every penetration, valley, and wall transition. Leonard sits in Oakland County, not far from the Romeo area and the rural stretches along 32 Mile Road, and winters here are no joke. After the ice and water, Summit 60 synthetic underlayment went up across the rest of the roof deck, running all the way to the ridge. Seventy-two feet of premium drip edge went on around the perimeter, and step flashing and wall flashing were installed at every intersection where the roof meets a vertical surface. Two new pipe boots and matching pipe boot covers went on as well.

Three bathroom exhaust vents were installed through the roof. That's worth calling out because bathroom fans that vent into the attic instead of outside are one of the more common sources of moisture buildup and eventual rot we see on inspections. Getting those exhausts routed properly through dedicated roof penetrations is a straightforward fix that makes a real difference. For ridge ventilation, we installed 52 feet of TruRidge All-Weather Ridge Vent and hand-nailed it across 208 linear feet of ridge.

The shingles are Atlas Pinnacle Pristine in Burnt Hickory. Greg had used the same color on a previous roof we did for him in Troy and felt it was the right match for this house. Two hundred and five squares of Pinnacle Pristine went down, along with Pro-Cut starter shingles at the eaves and rakes and Pro-Cut hip and ridge shingles at all the peaks. The four Velux skylights with integrated solar shades and matching flashing kits were measured and installed during the same visit as the roof, and Aaron personally delivered and tested the remotes to confirm everything was functioning before calling the job done.

For Leonard roofing at this scale, with multiple pitch zones, skylight installations, ventilation upgrades, and a significant amount of decking replacement, this was a well-coordinated job that came together over a few months from that first emergency call in January to a finished roof in late March.
