Exterior paint is the first thing a buyer or a neighbor sees, and prep work is where cheap painters cut corners. We pulled every painting company Google lists in Oakland Township, MI, checked which ones actually have an address in town, read their reviews, and went through their websites to build this list.
How we chose this list: Painting companies are sorted by Google rating weighted by review count. Companies based in Oakland Township come first, and where the city has fewer than five we added the nearest well-reviewed companies and say where they are based. The Exterior Painters is ranked first because it is where we send our own customers; see the disclosure below. This list is updated for 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a painting company based in Oakland Township?
None of the companies on this list are based in Oakland Township itself, but all of them serve it from nearby. The closest are Ellison Painting and Expert Painting & Maint., both in Rochester. ABC Painter is in Lake Orion, and Diamond Painting LLC is in Rochester Hills. The Exterior Painters has offices in Rochester Hills and Plymouth.
When is the best time of year to paint a house exterior in Michigan?
Late spring through early fall is the usual window in Michigan. Exterior paint needs dry surfaces and mild temperatures to cure well, so painters watch for stretches without rain and avoid cold nights. Each paint has a minimum application temperature printed on the label, so ask your painter which product they plan to use. Booking early in the year helps, since schedules fill up once the weather warms.
Do house painters need a license in Michigan?
Yes, for larger jobs. In Michigan, painting and decorating on a residential structure is a licensed trade. Contractors need a residential builder or maintenance and alteration license from LARA for jobs over $600. Ask for the license number before you sign a contract, and you can check it with LARA. It is also reasonable to ask for proof of insurance.
Does Roofing Army do painting?
No. Roofing Army does roofing only. When our own customers need exterior painting, siding or wood replacement, we send them to The Exterior Painters, which is run by the brother of Roofing Army's owner. If you are planning exterior work and want to know the condition of your roof first, Roofing Army inspects roofs for free in Oakland Township.
